 Company History
  Bunkers International Ltda. was founded by John and Maria Canal in 1995 and incorporated in Colombia, South America. The company began brokering and trading operations in Cartagena that year. In 1996, the company was incorporated as a U.S. corporation called Bunkers International, and moved its primary operations to the Orlando, Florida area.
Initial operations for the company were focused on the Americas, with a particular focus on the Colombian market. As the company grew its customer base and profitability, the mix of operations focused more on expanding the trading operation while continuing to provide quality brokering services to existing clients.
In 2000, Bunkers International established a joint venture in Colombia with Vanoil, S.A., called BunkersOil Colombia. This joint venture brought Bunkers International into the supply side of the bunkering business. Through this joint venture, Bunkers International has grown to become the largest marine fuel supplier in Colombia. Also in 2000, Bunkers International opened an office in the United Kingdom and expanded coverage across the European continent.
In 2005, Bunkers International commenced trading operations in Singapore. At this point the majority of the company’s business had switched to either trading or supply operations.
In 2006 the company launched its Turkey office, which is focused primarily on trading throughout the Mediterranean, Middle East, and the Black Sea.
2007 has been a busy year for Bunkers International as well, with the opening of a new office in South Africa in March 2007.
Bunkers International has grown the company at a strong pace; in the past three years both revenue and profitability have doubled every year. With its customer-centered approach and world-class team of bunkering professionals, Bunkers International is proud of its past and poised for a great future as one of the leading companies in the bunkering industry.
